Mona Bayoumi, barrister at Civitas Law has been appointed to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Wales Committee. The Committee is responsible for overseeing and guiding the work of the ECHR in Wales, advising the Welsh Government on matters relating to Equality and Human Rights legislation and advising the ECHR GB Board on how its policies affect people in Wales.
The EHRC champions’ equality and human rights for all, working to eliminate discrimination, reduce inequality, protect human rights and build good relations; ensuring everyone has a fair chance to participate in society.
The Wales Committee, chaired by Ann Beynon, the Wales Commissioner, provides informed, impartial and balanced perspectives on a range of sensitive and complex issues. These include equality and good relations in the areas of race, disability, gender, gender reassignment, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership as well as the protection and promotion of human rights.
The Committee ensures that the EHRC delivers its functions in a manner appropriate to Wales and that the EHRC Board can learn from the Welsh experience of equality and human rights. Committee members support the Wales Commissioner in delivering on those functions delegated to the Wales Committee.
